After the collapse of the Umayyad caliphate of Spain circa 399 A.H. / 1009 A.D, the Hammudids claimed for the Caliphate in 407 A.H. / 1016 A.D. They were descendants of Idris II, the founder of the Idrisid dynasty, and ruled in the south of Spain and in north of Morocco (Qurtuba, Malaqa, Al-Jazira and Sebta).

Ariza Armada Almudena has corrected the reading of the year
which cannot be A.H. 412 ((Ariza) pp. 154-155).

This coin may have been minted by supporters of Al-Qasim after his reign,
and Kund may have been one of them (Ariza p.150).

Qasim could have been an official in charge of the mint, or
a son of yahya who, for an unknown reason, has not inherited
the caliphal dignity (Ariza p. 201-202).

This dinar does not bear the full name “Qa” “sim” (in two parts) on the obverse
but only “sim” with an ornament instead of “Qa”. The absence of Qa on the top of obverse
is known only on some dinars and dirhams struck in 418 A.H. Among dinars, Qa is
replaced by a floral ornament (Ariza p. 203).

Muhammad and `Ubayda are unknown.

Hasan is the brother of Muhammad al Mahdi. He was governor of Wadi Lau
and recognized by the Gumara (Ariza p. 301). He was sent in al Maghreb
as it was traditional for Hammudid heirs, but Sebta was occupied by
the rival Idris [II] ben Yahya al `Ali (in Sebta) (Ariza p. 314)
